A known criminal who was caught on CCTV stealing a motorcycle and then riding it around Cathedral Square in Peterborough has been jailed and banned from driving.
Dawid Gabryelski, 20, pinched a black Lexmoto motorbike from outside a house on Fletton Avenue, Fletton, Peterborough, at about 3.15am on 15 October last year.
Just after 7am the same morning, Gabryelski was caught on camera riding the nicked bike in Cathedral Square.
The next morning, Gabryelski, from London Road, Woodston, Peterborough, was spotted in Wentworth Street. CCTV operators saw him and quickly reported it to the police.
He tried to make a break for it in a foot chase, but he was eventually caught by an officer in plain clothes. Ironically he was caught outside Peterborough Magistrates’ Court.
He appeared back at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (29 April 2025) where he was given a one-year driving ban and was sentenced to six months in prison after admitting taking the vehicle without the owner’s consent, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance.
This sentence will be served on top of a 17-month prison term he was given on 1 April after being found guilty of four counts of attempted burglary at two businesses in Millfield, Peterborough.
Detective Constable Hannah Worthington, who worked the case, said Gabryelski is already well-known to the police and has a long criminal record including burglaries, theft, drugs, and weapon offences. She added that it was great work by the CCTV operators who first spotted Gabryelski and reported it, and then by the officers who went and arrested him.
One less scumbag on our streets ..for now.
